Create Your Own Luck

The next time you are going through a rough patch don’t blame your luck or destiny. Highs and lows are a part of life. Just as the good times don’t last, neither do the bad times. But what you need to remember is that you have the power to change your destiny or luck.

According to Richard Wiseman, author of the “Luck Factor”- “A ten-year scientific study into the nature of luck has revealed that, to a large extent, people make their own good and bad fortune. The results also show that it is possible to enhance the amount of luck that people encounter in their lives”.

So it is in your power to stand up to a difficult situation and turn it in your favour. The trick lies in one’s state of mind. Believing in your own abilities can change an unfortunate situation to a fortunate one. Continue to feel lucky! The strong don’t quit but strive forward towards their goals.  It is very simple; luck follows a positive person. Thus, if you think of yourself as lucky, your self-confidence immediately gets a boost.

There are some golden rules to optimise your luck.

1. Trust Your Intuition

 Reconnect with Your Intuition

this may seem far-fetched but at times following your hunch may transform your life. Listening to that little inner voice and paying heed to your intuition can change the course of your future. You do not need astrologers, tarot card or coffee cup readers to predict your destiny for you. Feel lucky and lady luck will smile down upon you.

2. Consider ‘by Chance’ Opportunities

Increasing Your Chances

Richard Wiseman’s study indicates that lucky people are particularly open to possibility. Ever wondered why some people are blessed with good fortune? It’s not just luck here. They have a knack for spotting a profitable situation. “Most people are just not open to what’s around them,” Wiseman says. “That’s the key to it.”

The ‘lucky’ people create opportunities or grab them and then act upon them. They listen to their intuition, generate self-fulfilling prophesies through positive expectations, and adopt a flexible attitude that transforms bad luck into good.

“Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity”- Oprah Winfrey. She has put it very aptly. To give an example, let us assume that you get a job offer that you were just waiting for. They want you to join immediately. But for some unavoidable reason you are travelling and cannot return right away. So while you had the opportunity of a great job offer, you are unable to act upon it. Thus, most of the time, we make our own reality. Directly or indirectly we are responsible for our own destiny. So it is imperative that you are prepared when the opportunity presents itself.

3. Create Opportunities

Path to Success

Lucky people do not wait for opportunities to come their way. They create their own opportunities. They are willing to experiment, break away from norms and take the plunge. They talk to new people and do the same things differently. Such experiments present new opportunities and open up new doors for them. Therefore, the likelihood of these opportunities transforming into profitable ventures is much greater.

4. The Power of Positive Thinking

Positive Attitude In Life

Our own thoughts and behaviour influence our destiny and luck factor. Stop to think for a moment how positive people always do well in life. Their way of thinking and dealing with people and situations is always affirmative. They are compassionate, considerate and patient. They do not waste their time dwelling on failures and ill fortune, but instead take it in their stride.  They are optimistic in their approach and seek happiness in life. They expect the future to be full of good fortune. Just this belief gives them the strength and courage to face tough times and conquer the challenges that life may throw at them. So as is the law of nature, such people are lucky, and primarily by virtue of having the right outlook. Hence, inculcating a positive attitude will increase the possibilities of luck brightening your life.

5. Coping with Bad Luck

Increase your Luck

The lucky always look for the positive in any situation. They have the fortitude to face and handle set-backs.  They do the best thing one should do, and that is, they imagine that life has actually been kind to them and things could have been worse. Such people tend to find something good even in their ill fortune. They make the best of the situation rather than grumbling and crying over split milk.

Prof Richard Wiseman has been extensively involved in developing techniques that would help generate the ‘luck factor’ in people’s life. In fact, Prof Wiseman has tested the efficacy of these methods through experiments, known as the ‘luck school’.

People through centuries have searched and tried new and varied ways to improve the good fortune in their lives. Lucky charms are one such way to feel lucky. This may be just a superstition, but believing in good luck yields good fortune. As Lysann Damisch, co-author of the Cologne Study said on a website-“Our results suggest that the activation of a superstition can indeed yield performance-improving effects”. So go ahead and wear your lucky charm, next time when you are going for something important.

Needless to say then that lucky event exerts a dramatic influence over one’s life. Luck has the power to transform the improbable into the possible, to make the difference between losing and winning.
